Down-the-Hole drilling is one of the fastest, most dominant methods of geotechnical drilling. DTH drilling has many applications, including water well, oil and gas, blast hole and foundation drilling. This is an energy efficient form of wide-hole drilling (in the hole range of 100-254 mm) that can be performed in both a downward and an upward direction.
The drill pipes transmit the necessary feed force and rotation to hammer and bit plus compressed air or fluids for the hammer and flushing of cuttings. The drill pipes are added to the drill string successively behind the hammer as the hole gets deeper. The piston strikes the impact surface of the bit directly, while the hammer casing gives straight and stable guidance of the drill bit.
Working of DTH The impact energy therefore is not lost in joints allowing for much deeper percussion drilling. This means that the impact energy does not have to pass through any joints at all.
DTH Hammer specification:
1. Out of the trouble of foot valve fracture and expansion and contraction.
2. Lower energy consumption and higher impact frequency. The drilling speed is 15%-30% higher than the one with foot valve.
3. Simple structure, reliable parts, long life, easy and cheap maintenance.
4. Lower air and oil consumption. The oil consumption is about 10% lower than the one with foot valve.
Face shape Features
For high penetration rates in soft to medium hard and fissured rock formations. Low to medium air pressures. Maximum hole deviation control.
The all-round application bit face special for medium hard and homogenerous rock formations. Good hole deviation control and good flushing capacity.
For high penetration rates in soft to medium-hard with low to medium air pressures. It is the most resistance to steel wash, and may reduce the load and wear on the gauge buttons, but poor hole deviation control.
This kind of face shape is suitable for very hard and abrasive rock formations in applications with high air pressures. Good penetration rates an resistance to steel wash.
Double Gauge Face
This kind of face shape is suitable for fast penetration rates in medium to hard rock formations. Designed for high air pressures and good resistance to steel wash step gauge bit.
